RESTAURANTS AND GASTRONOMY IN THE DORDOGNE

Dordogne and Gastronomy: these two words are almost redundant, as the art of eating well is intrinsically linked to the South West in general and particularly to the Dordogne. Fête de l'Oie
"Fête de l'Oie" is the Sarlat Geese Festival.
Every year Sarlat holds the Geese Festival. It will be held this year on Sunday 22 February. An opportunity to associate the traditional volatile and the lovely narrow streets of cobble stones of our great medieval city. The Middle Ages are back!
Many events will be scheduled for this quite original and picturesque day. |
Early in the morning, more than two hundred geese will be parked on the Place de la Liberté before going on a "special tour" of the city led by a shepherd dog.
Various cultural events and festivities will enliven the day: a documentary film about the birth and reproduction of geese, painting on goose eggs, calligraphy, etc.
Gastronomy and Tradition require tastings. A huge banquet will propose typical local dishes: duck, goose foie-gras, and potatoes cooked the Sarlat way.
For sure, geese wandering in the city is not usual, and it is worth it!

Many festivities will enliven the event. In addition to a traditional truffle market all weekend, the Brotherhood of Foie-Gras and Truffle will welcome new members and "truffle brouillade" cooked by a Périgord chef will be offered.
Visitors will also discover a lot about truffles. The cavage (truffle hunting) will be staged in part of the medieval city trasnformed into a truffle yard. All other steps, such as washing and brushing the truffles, will be explained.
During these two days, you will get the opportunity to go "hunting the black diamond" and to attend a tour of the town, or become a true expert in truffles thanks to various workshops.
Finally, a competition will be organized where you'll have to guess the exact weight of a truffle. Have a try!
The In-Sarlat Network which groups 3- to 5-star rated apartments located in the real medieval center of the city, are a sponsor to the event and have put two apartments at the disposal of the organizers.
In-Sarlat participates in the cultural development of the city.
